Addiction is seen as compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences.
There are two broad categories of addiction - One is addiction to substances such as alcohol, street drugs, prescription drugs; and, yes, food is a substance - compulsive overeating, anorexia and bulimia. The other is process or behavioral addiction such as gambling, gaming, sex and love addiction, internet and pornography addiction, and compulsive spending.
Addiction impacts on individuals and families emotionally, physically, and financially. The good news, however, is that, when the individual recognizes that the behavior is destructive, it can be treated successfully and life can become better than ever!!!!
